The greater part of the Great Wall of China was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 CE-1644 CE) while the initial pieces were put in place during the Spring and AutumnPeriod (770BCE-476BCE) of the Zhou Dynasty.

Location
The present day city of Handan of Hebei province was the established capital of the Zhao. On its west was the Wei State, the Qi state on its east apart by the Qinghe river while on its north was the Yan state separated by the Yi'shui river and the Yellow River and Zhanghe River on the south. It also fringed along the minority nationalities of Hun, Linhu and Loufan on the northwest region.

It was the frequent skirmishes between the minority troopers and the Zhao state that bothered both King Zhaoyong and Emperor Zhao Wulin. So in the year 366B.C Wulin marched his army to the state of Zhongshan and defeated them and soon after pushed his enemies the Loufan and Hulin farther north.
