Wall of Eastern Wei

One of the Eight Wonders of the World is the Great Wall of China, which was enlisted in the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. In A.D. 534, the Northern Wei was split into the Eastern Wei and the Western Wei. Emperor Xiaojing of the Eastern Wei moved his capital to Yecheng, it lasted 17 years. This was done to avert invasion by the Rouran. The Eastern Wei constructed a segment of the Great Wall in 543 from present day's Jingle County to Chunyang County of Shanxi Province, stretching about 75 kilometers.

Though it was not very long; it was the means of access through which northern wandering peoples entered China. The Eastern Wei built this part of the Great Wall to merge and strengthen the northern frontier and to prevent incursion by roving tribes

These sites of the Wei state are located in present Huayin City, Hancheng City and Dali County in Shaanxi Province. Starting at the base of Qinling in Huayin, the Wall extended to Dali, Chengcheng and Heyang in the north and Hancheng in the east, through the Loess Altiplano to Inner Mongolia, and at last ended in Guyang, Baotou.
