The greater part of the Great Wall of China was constructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368 CE-1644 CE) while the initial pieces started during the Autumn and Spring Period (770BCE-476BCE) of the Zhou Dynasty.Small squabbles and battles were always fought between the Chu, Qin ,Qi ,Zhao states on the Autumn and Spring period and the warring states period. The Huns constantly and Yexian Counties of Pingdingshan City, Wugang City, Fang cheng and
assaulted China. To protect themselves the states of Chu, Qin, Qi, Han, Yan, Zhao and Wei built and extended their own defensive walls. Walls existed in the Yangtze River valley, the Yellow River valley and the Northern China areas by the end of the Warring States period.
Location
Present day Linzi County of Shandong Province was the established capital of the Qi State. Qi was an established powerful province before the Autumn and Spring Period. To its south was the Chu, Lu and Song states. The Yan State and the Bohai Sea was on the north, the Zhao State and the Qinghe River on the west and the Yellow Sea on the east.
Extension of the Wall of Qi State
It was around the middle of the Spring and Autumn Period, Qi state under Emperor Qi Xuanwang started constructing their own wall. It was built mainly to avoid the onslaught from the neighboring sates and the outer tribes. The project lasted for 300 years and was completed in the middle of the Warring States Period. It stretched almost entirely to the Shandong Province, from Changqing County in the west to Jiaonan County in the east, passing through eight cities to reach the Yellow Sea. It is cited as the "Great Defense" in some historical literary piece as it joined the embankment of Yuanhe River and the north foot of Taishan Mountain.
Structure of the Wall of the Qi State
The Wall covers a length of 600 kilometers. The Wall of Qi made of earth and stone obtained material from the local sources. The thickness of the wall is around 4-5meters while the height differ from 1to 5 meters. Some parts of the Qi wall in Shandong province can still be identified.
