It is an arched gate, measuring upto a width of 120 meters and a depth of 80 meteres. The characters Bai Ma Guan Bao are inscribed on a stone tablet above the arch.The particular tablet is somewhat dissimilar from those found at other forts, in that the four characters are prearranged perpendicularly in two lines, "Bai Ma" on the right section and "Guan Bao" on the left section.
The meaning of Baima can be read as "white horse." It is held in the local traditions, that many years ago, a ferocious and brawny white horse lived in the Muyun section, frightening the villagers in the locality. After a famous general of the Song Dynasty, Yang Yanzo, saw the horse playing in the river one day, he jumped onto the horse's back and succeeded in calming it after a long battle. From then on, General Yang drove on the horse to fight every war. At that time, the kingdom of Liao repeatedly invaded the Song's northern border. In order to stop the Liao's invasion, General Yang left the horse on the Great Wall. When invading Liao soldiers saw it, they beat a rapid withdrawal because they thought General Yang and his troops were stationed there. Hence the fort was named as Baimaguan Section.
There are also two sections namely, Erdaobian and Yidaobian which surrounds the fort. The former includes the east and west sections, while the later forms the main part of the Great Wall.
