The Summer Palace is one of the best preserved and the largest imperials garden in china. This palace is located in the western outskirts of the Haidian District. Owing to its possession of the largest royal park, the State Council in 1960 designated it as the Key Cultural Relics Protection site of china. In 1998, UNESCO also listed as one of the World Heritage Sites. The foundation of the Summer Palace was laid during the Jin dynasty and during the Qing dynasty the palace became a lavish royal garden providing the royal families a magnificent place for rest and entertainment.The total area acquired by the Summer Palace is around 294 hectares, three quarters of which is water.
